This is how I used my college to run a business
By Shabareesh Shetty

Here is a challenge for you: In the next 30 days, you have to make use of 2 of the techniques and share the result with me. Let me see, who is the smartest in the room?
TL;DR: We will see how 5 lessons from Kishore Biyani’s strategy. How does he target fewer customers with high profits? How to target current trends and use them? How to make others work with you without actually paying them? What are the elements you need to target to sell a product? And lastly, how can you create rituals around your brand?
These are the — key points which you need to remember to win the future tech market
1. Average coders will vanish:
Due to this AI revolution, the coding community can be seen as 3 major chunks or groups:
Top Coders: Who are building actual products, researching and publishing them for actual use.
Average Coders: Those who have learnt it, never execute it, but tend to do repetitive tasks manually.
Bottom Coders: Who test the products, fix bugs and do some minor changes.
What do you think will not survive?
2. Find a gem faculty
In every college, there will be a faculty member who is highly interested in businesses but didn’t do one, did one, or is currently running one. They are like a gem for you, and you should utilise them. They can act as a booster for you to maintain your academics and drastically increase your business network and growth speed.
For me, I had an advantage because our college already has an Incubation and it was easy to find such faculties, but for you, if you are not finding one, just DM me, I will make you find one in ease.
3. Students are your “FREE” employees
Students are the ones who will work for you. If you just say that you will give work experience, that doesn’t mean they will agree if you don’t show any value.
For me, I have an Entrepreneurship Cell, now students are readily wanting to work under me, and we got around 100+ registrations, just to work under entrepreneruship cell.
4. Colleges are the gateways for premium events
There are lots of premium events for business enthusiasts that are invite-only or paid entry; colleges provide free entries for such events if you show value to them.
Recently, I had a chance to attend TiECon Mangaluru 2026, which was a premium event in my locality. Each person was charged Rs. 3000, but my ticket was sponsored by the college.

5. Your ID is the basket of freebies
The thing which I list valued was one of the most valuable thing, your college ID card. You could get tons of student discounts just with that one thing.
I have Perplexity PRO, Gemini PRO, ChatGPT Go, Canva discounted subscription, YT Music Student Offer, and so on. Tell me if I am missing something. I am using it like crazy.
Conclusion:
If you show value clearly, no one can stop you from making your college a workspace for the business. The thing is, you need to highlight what you are working on. And what are your visions?
Visibility = Credebility
Keep building yourself every day!
P.S.: If you are still thinking “My college doesn’t have anything like this”. Drop a DM to me, and I will show you the reality
